Thank you for your interest in learning more about our 36 chapters here at the University. Please click on the council's process (on the left tool bar) that is most of interest to you.
Recruitment
Recruitment is hosted by the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and the Panhellenic Council (PHC) and each takes place early in the Fall semester (Fraternity Recruitment - August 30 - September 3; Sorority Recruitment - August 18 - 23). It is a great way for prospective members to visit each our 14 NIC fraternities or 14 NPC sororities at once, as well as a chance to form a network of close friends within a few days of arriving on campus.
Recruitment is an opportunity to meet hundreds of your peers, get acquainted with campus, and finally begin your new life as a college student. Without a doubt, you will meet the men and women who will be your best friends during your college years and beyond. By participating in recruitment, you are taking the first step toward an active and enriching experience as a fraternity or sorority member.
Membership Intake
Membership intake is the membership selection process conducted by Iowa's historically Black and Latino/a Greek-letter organizations, which are governed by the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). Early in the fall semester, the NPHC fraternities and sororities represented on campus present information about their individual chapters for prospective members. Each chapter will not begin its actual membership intake process until later in the academic year, as NPHC affiliated fraternities and sororities typically do not accept a student for membership until the student has completed at least 12-24 hours of college credit with a minimum GPA.
NPHC chapters embrace a lifetime commitment philosophy and aim to assure the continuance of academic achievement, political awareness, and community service. We strongly encourage those interested in the Membership Intake process to attend the Meet the Greeks event in Friday, September 11, 2009, Illinois Room, IMU from 7pm - 9pm.
